Global Business Innovation Programme with the USA : InsurTech

Offering innovation-driven businesses the chance to explore collaborative opportunities with Israel relevant to Renewable Energy

The Renewable Energy Global Business Innovation Programme (GBIP) with Israel is a funded offering organised by Innovate UK as part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and delivered by Innovate UK EDGE to help innovative UK businesses explore global opportunities to grow and scale.

The GBIP is a structured three-phase programme consisting of - (1) get ready for the market, (2) visit the market and (3) exploit the opportunity. The GBIP is designed to provide you with valuable insights to gain detailed market knowledge, introductions and cultural benefits to enable you to effectively access a market with new collaborations and partnerships, which businesses would find challenging to obtain by themselves.

You will have a designated Innovate UK EDGE innovation and growth specialist to provide invaluable wrap-around support for the duration of the offering and who will help your business maximise the opportunities identified, including developing innovation projects with partners in the territory.

Why take part in our GBIP with Israel?

Israel is home to a dynamic community of renewable energy innovators. The renewable energy industry in Israel is growing rapidly and is attracting international players to establish research partnerships. The Israeli energy market is changing at a pace and poses opportunities for innovative solutions that have applicability worldwide.

The programme will support the development of collaborations between UK businesses and Israeli partners to take advantage of future
collaborative activities.

In addition, the programme will include a visit to PLANETech World 2023, a global exhibition for climate tech innovators showcasing Israel as a world centre for climate change technologies. PLANETech is a joint venture of the Israel Innovation Institute, Consensus Business Group and the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection.

We are looking for businesses that focus on delivering solutions for renewable energy in Israel and UK SMEs in Renewable Energy, including:

  • Energy systems integrating solar
  • Local energy systems, including storage
  • Clean fuels for transport and industry, including hydrogen

Israel is a growing market for renewable energy solutions due to strong national commitments to developing the renewable energy market. For example:

  • The Environmental Protection Ministry has published an Energy Roadmap which proposes the generation of 42% of Israel’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030. This would require the installation of 18-23GW of solar panels along with 5.5GW / 33GWh of storage capacity
  • The total potential for solar PV installation is estimated at 26GW, including 24GW on building roofs and facades, parking lots, industrial areas and water bodies, and 2GW from solar generation located over agricultural crops (agri-solar)
  • The Roadmap also recommends the creation of a regulatory framework for managing distributed renewable energy, storage systems and for virtual power plants (VPPs) to manage 100MW of renewables and 50MW of storage
  • Mobility is undergoing rapid electrification. From 2030, residents of Israel will no longer be able to buy petrol or diesel cars
