Joanne Freeman 

British Consul General for Queensland and the Northern Territory and the Director of Trade for Australia & New Zealand

  • Jo Freeman is the British Consul General for Queensland and the Northern Territory and the Director of Trade for Australia & New Zealand at the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT). Before arriving in Brisbane Jo worked as the Deputy Consul General in Sydney and has previously worked for DIT in various roles overseas including India and Canada. 
  • As the Head of Learning & Development at UK Trade and Investment, she delivered training courses across the overseas network and in the UK. Before coming to Australia in October 2016, Jo was DIT’s Deputy Regional Director for London. In this role, she was responsible for managing stakeholder relationships across the London region and helping London companies explore export opportunities overseas.

Carl Stephen Patrick Hunter 

Chairman of Coltraco Ultrasonics

  • Carl Stephen Patrick Hunter OBE is Chairman of Coltraco Ultrasonics, a high-exporting manufacturer of instrumentation and systems to the maritime and safety engineering sectors in 120 countries. 
  • Carl led his company’s Resilience-Diversification-Growth strategy in response to COVID19, underpinned by the principle of being Better-Faster-Cheaper in their global markets. 
  • In 2019 the company won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade and Carl received the Lifetime Exporting Achievement Award from the CEO of UK Export Finance at Mansion House. 
  • The company is creating the Durham Institute of Research Development & Invention and its Centre of Acoustic Analysis at Durham University and is co-locating its laboratory with the Centre for Advanced Instrumentation, Department of Physics, later this year. 
  • Carl is a DIT Export Champion, holds an Honorary Doctorate of Science and is a Professor-in-Practice at Durham Business School.
