Global Business Innovation Programme with Hyderabad & Chennai, India: Urban Systems
About This Event
What is the Innovate UK Global Business Innovation Programme?
The Global Business Innovation Programme (GBIP) with Hyderabad & Chennai, India, in Urban Systems is a funded offering organised by Innovate UK as part of UKRI and delivered by Innovate UK EDGE, to help innovative UK businesses explore global opportunities to grow and scale.
Consisting of a three-phase programme - (1) get ready for the market, (2) visit the market and (3) exploit the opportunity, the GBIP is designed to detailed market knowledge, introductions and cultural benefits to enable you to effectively access a market with new collaborations and partnerships, which businesses would find challenging to obtain by themselves.
You will receive invaluable wrap-around support by an expert Innovation & Growth Specialist, who will help your business maximise the opportunities identified, including developing innovation projects with partners in the territory.
Why take part in our Global Business Innovation Programme to India in Urban Systems?
Over the next 30 years, some 400 million people are expected to move into urban environments across India. This presents major opportunities and challenges, which are captured in part by the Government of India’s ‘100 Smart Cities’ mission.
The vision is bold and far reaching, striving to promote core infrastructure elements in large urban areas, such as good water and electricity supplies, sanitation, and affordable housing.
This initiative to India is relevant for businesses that focus on delivering net zero solutions that address the following types of challenges:
- Citizen engagement and sustainable behaviour change
- Intelligent buildings and housing
- New energy solutions
- Improving urban health
- Smart mobility
- Urban infrastructure, planning and transportation
- Water and waste management
- Circular economy
The benefits of being involved with this in-market programme include a visit to both Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, and Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. Both cities have well-developed innovation communities and rank highly in smart city indices - with Chennai being a more mature smart city market, whilst Hyderabad is earlier stage and rapidly developing.
These areas of interest identified reflect the opportunities for participation and joint working relationships between the UK and India, and supports the wider work in both cities by other parts of the UK government innovation ecosystem.
How does the Global Business Innovation Programme work?
The GBIP is structured around three main phases and each business will have a designated Innovate UK EDGE Innovation & Growth Specialist to support for the duration of the offering, including developing an action plan to capitalise on the opportunities identified.
